Walking to Merkins Cafe or George Pub
To walk to Merkins Cafe, turn right at pedestrian gate, head up the lane and over the fields. In the first field take a diagonal path to a gap in the hedge on left hand side, then left of the pylon in the next field to the next gap in the hedge on left hand side. Across the top field to just left of the house. ( At the top of the hill there is a great view from the Marlborough Downs to the left, Salisbury Plain directly in front with the White Horse clearly visible and the Mendips to your right). Take the style in the hedge, cross the drive and take the style into the old pig field. Exit via a style and turn right on the footpath alongside the main road. 200-300 metres down take the first right at the old Plough Inn and follow the minor road for about 1/4 mile for Merkins Cafe.
For the George Pub, turn left at the pedestrian gate, head down the lane, cut across the green and cross the road for Woolley Street. Passing the Woolley Grange Hotel on your right, you will come to the George after around 1/4 mile,
Walking to Town
To walk to Town, take a left at the pedestrian gate and head down the lane. Cut across the green and take Woolley Street. Pass the Woolley Grange Hotel and the George Pub and bit further on your left. At the end of the street across from the Texaco Garage (200m on your right up the hill is the convenience shop) go across the roundabout and follow Woolley Street down the hill. Turn right at the bottom, down Silver Street and you will come to the town.
